About me

Alan Jakman – I’m Alan Jakman, and I’ve spent over a decade working professionally as a genealogist — recovering the histories of families like yours from the archives of Central and Eastern Europe.
I’m a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists in Poland, and my work has been welcomed by the Polish-American genealogy community: I’ve presented a webinar for the Polish Genealogical Society of Connecticut and the Northeast (Lists of Parishioners and Confession Lists in Galicia), and my articles have been translated and published in Gen Dobry!, one of the longest-running Polish genealogy publications in the United States.
Closer to home, I trained at the University of Silesia and the University of Economics in Katowice. I’m a founding member of the Association of Polish Professional Genealogists and a member of the Polish Genealogical Society, and since 2021 I’ve taught on “Genealogy: Theory and Practice” at Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw — the only postgraduate genealogy program in Poland.
But the work I’m proudest of began with my own family. My research has traced nearly 3,000 relatives and more than 400 ancestors, reaching documents from the late 1500s — so I know firsthand both what it takes to find these answers and what it means to finally hold them.
In 2013, I founded More Maiorum, Poland’s only genealogy magazine, to share what I’d learned. Our research has since been cited by authors and journalists, and my work has been featured across Poland’s leading newspapers, magazines, and national television — including the Polish editions of Forbes and Newsweek.
I also work alongside trusted genealogists across Poland and beyond its borders — so wherever your family’s records are held, I can reach them.
