About me

Alan Jakman – I have been working professionally in the field of genealogy for over 10 years. I am a graduate of the University of Silesia in Katowice and the University of Economics in Katowice. I am a founding member of the Association of Polish Professional Genealogists, a member of the Polish Genealogical Society and the Association of Professional Genealogists. Since the 2021/2022 academic year, I have been teaching on the postgraduate course ‘Genealogy: Theory and Practice’ at Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University.
My own genealogical research has led to the discovery of nearly 3,000 relatives, over 400 ancestors, and the unearthing of documents dating from the late 16th century. Wishing to share the theoretical and practical knowledge gained in the field of family history research, the first issue of Poland’s only genealogical monthly, More Maiorum®, was published in February 2013. The high standard of the content published in the quarterly is evidenced, for example, by the fact that our research – such as that concerning the genealogy of Jan Henryk Holger Martin (the former owner of the disputed plot at 70 Chmielna Street in Warsaw) – has been cited by subsequent book authors and journalists. ‘More Maiorum’ has also been featured in ‘Newsweek’, ‘Rzeczpospolita’, ‘Gość Niedzielny’, ‘Angora’, ‘Gazeta Wyborcza’, as well as on the websites MamStartup.pl, MamBiznes.pl, Forbes and Puls Biznesu. I spoke about genealogy on Dzień Dobry TVN, as well as on TVP.
I also work with other genealogists both in Poland and abroad.
